School Zone Speed Camera Program

The Milledgeville Police Department utilizes automated speed enforcement cameras in designated school zones to protect children and pedestrians. The program is authorized under Georgia law (O.C.G.A. § 40-14-18) and enforced only during active school zone hours.

Speed cameras are posted with advance warning signs and operate only when school zone flashing beacons are active — typically during school arrival and dismissal times.

How It Works

  • Cameras photograph vehicles traveling above the posted school zone speed limit
  • Images are reviewed by a sworn law enforcement officer before any citation is issued
  • Citations are mailed to the registered vehicle owner
  • A warning is issued for the first violation during the initial program period
  • Subsequent violations result in a $75 citation (first offense) or $125 (subsequent)
