About COPS

The Milledgeville Police Department Community-Oriented Policing Services (COPS) program places officers directly into the community — going beyond traditional reactive policing to build lasting relationships, address the root causes of crime, and foster genuine trust between MPD and the residents we serve.

COPS officers are specifically assigned to engage with neighborhoods, schools, businesses, and community organizations on a personal, consistent basis. The goal is a safer Milledgeville built on mutual respect and open communication.

Program Activities

  • Regular neighborhood walk-throughs and community check-ins
  • School resource engagement and youth outreach
  • Business district liaison and safety consultations
  • Neighborhood Watch coordination and support
  • Community problem-solving partnerships addressing quality-of-life issues
  • Participation in community events, festivals, and civic programs
  • Connecting residents with city resources and social services

Car Seat Safety Checks & Registration

MPD COPS officers provide free child car seat safety inspections to ensure your child's safety seat is correctly installed and appropriate for their age, weight, and height. Improper installation is one of the most common — and preventable — causes of child injury in vehicle crashes.

Our certified technicians will inspect your seat, verify it is the right fit for your child, and walk you through any corrections on the spot. Car seat registration is also available, ensuring you receive notifications of any manufacturer safety recalls for your specific seat.

Schedule a Car Seat Inspection

Car seat safety checks are free of charge and open to all Baldwin County families. Inspections are available by appointment — call (478) 414-4090 during business hours to schedule. Walk-ins are welcome when a certified technician is available.

Public Safety Cadets

The COPS unit oversees the MPD Public Safety Cadets program — a hands-on youth program for young adults ages 14–20 interested in careers in law enforcement and public safety. Cadets train alongside officers, participate in state and national competitions, and develop the skills and discipline that define a career in public service.

Our Commitment

MPD believes that effective policing is built on partnership. When officers know their community and community members know their officers, everyone is safer. The COPS program is a direct expression of that belief — an investment in relationships that makes our response to crime more effective and our presence more trusted.
