The Milledgeville Police Department maintains several specialized units that enhance our operational capabilities and strengthen our connection to the community.
K-9 Unit
Our certified K-9 teams assist with tracking missing persons, building searches, and handler protection. MPD K-9 officers and their partners undergo rigorous joint training and certification.
Bicycle Patrol
Bicycle patrol officers provide a highly visible, community-friendly presence in parks, downtown areas, and neighborhoods. Officers on bikes can access areas patrol cars cannot and create stronger community connections.
Community Policing (COPS)
Dedicated officers focus on community engagement, problem-oriented policing, and building partnerships with residents, schools, and businesses to address root causes of crime.
Traffic & Speed Enforcement
Works in conjunction with automated enforcement technology (school zone cameras) and targeted patrol to reduce traffic fatalities and serious injuries on Milledgeville streets.
SWAT
The MPD Special Weapons and Tactics team is trained and equipped to respond to high-risk incidents including barricaded subjects, hostage situations, high-risk warrant service, and active threat scenarios requiring a tactical response.
