About CID

The Criminal Investigations Division (CID) is composed of experienced detectives responsible for the follow-up investigation of serious crimes that occur within the city limits of Milledgeville. Detectives work to gather evidence, interview witnesses and suspects, and build cases for prosecution.

Responsibilities

  • Follow-up investigation of felony crimes
  • Burglary and robbery investigations
  • Crimes against persons (assaults, homicides)
  • Financial crimes and fraud
  • Drug trafficking investigations
  • Coordination with state and federal agencies
  • Juvenile investigations

Reporting a Crime

If a crime has already occurred and there is no immediate danger, you can:

Important: CID does not take walk-in reports. Initial reports must be taken by a uniformed patrol officer or submitted online. CID will then conduct follow-up as warranted.

Evidence & SafeKeeping Item Retrieval

Property held by MPD as evidence or for safekeeping may be retrieved by authorized parties once it has been cleared for release. To schedule a pickup, contact the MPD Evidence Technician in advance — walk-in retrieval is not available.

  • All pickups must be scheduled as an appointment with the Evidence Technician prior to arrival
  • Valid government-issued photo ID is required at pickup
  • Evidence released only to authorized owners or designated representatives with proper documentation
